Today is the day I come clean about the real plan.
Why I really choose a career in radio.
When I was young and felt like I had no friends, a few self-help books made me feel less alone. I wanted to give someone else that same feeling. But I figured I needed a success story before anyone would take my words seriously. Radio became my vehicle: if I could make a name for myself in a competitive industry, maybe I’d have something worth listening to.
My plan was to be out by 35. Apparently, I forgot to tell radio.
The creativity, competition, compensation and connection gave me plenty of reasons to stay. I’m still there, with very few regrets.
Over time, I’ve shared more about who I am, what I believe, and how I’ve managed to manifest a pretty incredible life. But there’s a balance. Nobody tunes into Lex and Terry hoping I’ll interrupt with my thoughts on spirituality and my frustrations with the new, grifter self-help world.
My personal social media pages have given those conversations a home. And to my surprise, many of the people who want to have them are listeners who’ve been with me all along.
Consider this my very soft coming-out video. You’re going to see more of this side of me: the ideas, experiences, and occasional mumbo-jumbo that have helped shape my life.
If any of that speaks to you, stick around. And tell me in the comments: What book, person, or idea was there for you when you needed it most?
